Rainforest Park and the Donald Peter Hayes National Wildlife Refuge are the manifestation of one man's dream. Don Hayes observes the world around him and realizes our most valuable biological resources, the very elements we depend on for life itself, are being destroyed at an alarming rate. Don is passionate in his quest to protect the biologically rich and sensitive lands within the worlds diminishing rainforests.
Don is committed to the idea that rainforests can be saved from destruction, and yet still be utilized in a sustainable manner for the benefit of nature and mankind alike. After decades of hard work and great personal expense, his dreams are becoming reality. The Donald Peter Hayes National Wildlife Refuge, and other projects Don has initiated are making a difference for the rainforest and for all living creatures. National Geographic Magazine proclaimed the region "the most biologically intense place on earth". The richest rainforests surround the Golfo Dulce and are protected by a series of national parks and reserves. They begin just above the town of Golfito at Rainforest Park, within the 500+ acre registered Donald Peter Hayes National Wildlife Refuge, and continue on through the Golfito National Wildlife Refuge to Piedras Blancas National Park, the Golfo Dulce Forest Reserve, and finally to the Corcorvado National Park. Rainforest Park enjoys a commanding view of Golfito Island, the Golfo Dulce, and the surrounding mountains. The Park and Refuge also boast several spectacular waterfalls and soaking pools. The sheer mass and diversity of flora and fauna is simply amazing. The plants within Rainforest Park may have the potential to provide cures for the multitude of ailments that still afflict humankind. The Park will focus on research to develop and maintain sustainable bio-enhancement and rainforest resource management techniques. The goal is to identify and utilize valuable rainforest products, and develop a dependable, sustainable supply, while actually enhancing the health of the rainforest. | There is no better place to just hang around and smile.
| | The perfect place to end your day!
